Comments: Does anyone know about this? From the site http://www.esmastering.com/ June 2006: And big news for you punksters out there; ESM is proud to work with The Judy's, who came in for some work to re-release two albums with bonus tracks! Keep an eye out for "Washarama" and "The Moo Album" soon.

Comments: I have seen a lot of messages asking for the Judy's on CD. Let me throw my hat in the rink. I am in Iraq right now and my last tape was eaten by a boom box about three months ago (most likely Al-Qaida backed). I will be here for another 8 months and my Washarama LP is in a box in my guest room. I followed the Judy's back in high school and I still listen to and sing the songs. Somebody help me get Washarama and the Moo songs.

Comments: I bought Washarama in eBay 2 years ago for $65.00. I don't have a record player, but I had to have it. Please re-release the music on cd's. Ya'll could make a fortune. Hell, I'd pay a lot for it. And I wouldn't even mind.

Comments: Just got an MP3 player a few days ago ... yeah, I'm slow. Was trying to think of music to try to find and thought of the Judys. I only heard Moo while camping out for football tickets at TCU and they later played at TCU (late 80's). Was fascinated. Doing the search tonight I came upon this website. I have learned a few things and it's brought up some old memories - like the name George Gimarc. On a related note, I just found out yesterday that Alex Luke also formerly of the EDGE in Dallas is Director of Music Programming and Label Relations at iTunes. Need to get him to work on putting some Judys songs on iTune! I didn't know the Arcadia burned down. Used to go religiously every week for Retrocadia. Forgive me for saying this, but I didn't even know The Judys were from Texas! My excuse is I discovered them late and I grew up in the little pointy western part of Texas that is in a different time zone from the rest of the state. But I'm in Ireland now and I'm going to go dig through my cassettes for my Moo tape.

Comments: I am a television producer in Portland, OR., and after watching a news report regarding the flaming pile of rubble that was my cherished Arcadia Theater I posted a lament through my show's web site. I listed the bands I had seen over the years at the Arcadia and a few of my favorite shows as well. The very next day I get an email from a fan of my show telling me that, when he was in high school in Lancaster, CA, a new kid moved to town from Texas, lugging along his Judy's casettes, which were then duped for the entire school (sorry guys). A fun, silly little band with a pretty fantastic reach. Thanks for years of fun from folks well outside of what you may have thought was your sphere of influence.

Comments: I had Washarama on cassette in high school (I lived nearby in Clear Lake until '87). That tape got more mileage than my VW Bug, but it finally gave out in college. My new band in Austin is called Manager's Choice and we're pretty influence by the Judy's. Any time we play "She's Got the Beat", the 4 people in the crowd go nuts! Anyway, please check us out at www.myspace.com/managerschoiceViva la Judy's!

Comments: So, I'm sitting at the kitchen table and my son says to me "Hey dad, you were in a band in high school weren't you?" I mumbled something about it being a garage band blah blah blah that went on to become the Jets and then the Judys and then I lost touch with everyone. A few minutes later, he is dragging me to the computer and telling me I have got to see this! I had no idea, I have been living my life in California and other places and didn't know the guys had gone so far with the band, their band. I remember the concert in the high school cafeteria, the VIR, the Jimmie Hendrix controversy, Sam's death and the ARGUMENTS!!! What ever became of Lance? So much water under the bridge. I can't remember if I ever got my bass amp back.

Comments: From "A Short Discography of the Texas New Wave" in Texas Music Collector magazine #1 (April 2006): "Records by the Judy's are probably the most collected of the Texas New Wave. Despite its universal popularity throughout Texas, the Houston-area band never made it off of its own Wasted Talent Records. The group's history is well-documented and their 7-inch single, 12-inch EP and first two LPs are chock full of minimalist DIY pop. Solo EPs by songwriter David Bean and bassist Jeff Walton are also worth looking into."

Comments: I'll never forget seeing the Judy's at Fat Dawgs in Lubbock while in college at Texas Tech. What an unforgettable experience. There was one time when I won tickets to the show from the campus radio station. A buddy and I went to the show, but it was canceled because one of the band members was sick. So, we hung out with a couple of guys who did show up and talked. It was the coolest. THere was another band at that time from Dallas, For Reasons Unknown, I think... They were more of a U2 cover band but won an MTV video contest... They and the Judy's really made my college memory book.

Comments: Grew up outside Dallas, have lived in Europe since 1990. Recently a British colleague asked me what it was like growing up in Texas - were they all rednecks and Republicans? I told him it's a big place - you get George Strait but you also get... the Judy's. Who? Glad I found this site to show him. I remembered how my friends and I would blast Washarama up and down I-35. Finish work on Friday in Dallas; wind up in Nuevo Laredo Saturday morning. Recently played "All the Pretty Girls" for my oldest son; he's now trying to figure it out on his guitar. Shouldn't take long.

Comments: KICKING MYSELF! I got into The Judy's very young thanks to my sisters. Anyway I had Washarama and Moo and played them millions of times over at least 10 years. I loved them but I had no idea they were local to Houston. Anyway I moved to Mexico in 96 and on a trip home I took all of my vinyl to Half Price Books for some cash. Now back in the states and missing old memories I realized that these albums are super hard to find. Whoever found my old ones at half price is probably laughing now. Anyway I just wanted everyone to know that I am an idiot for letting go of my so loved albums and the Judy's will always be among my favorite bands of all time!

Comments: Hmmppph! This is the first I've heard about that reunion show. You'd think MAYBE Mr. Bean would've contacted me, since he conned me into wasting my time recording a track for the Washarama tribute CD AND being his accomplice in tricking Kathy McCarty into recording Guyana Punch for the disc as well! This was for the 20th anniversary CD release of Washarama, and it's now almost time for the 25th anniversary!!! AND STILL NO CDs! Well, in any case, I'm gonna contact DB and if he doesn't swear the double CD is coming out SOON, me & Kathy are gonna put out a split single of our two Judy's cover tracks. (I recorded "You Never Call Me" with phoned-in guest vocals by Daniel Johnston and members of Fastball, the Reivers, the Go-Gos, Big Boys, Sublime, the Damned, David Bowie's Tin Machine and others. Neat, huh?) Oh, also, I've been trying to get a Bean or Judy's tribute or show at SXSW for a few years; the music festival people are all for it if I can get ahold of the band and arrange something - if the CDs or new Judy's recordings were to follow this rare reunion gig, then SXSW 2006 just might find the Judy's in Austin after all! - kl

APRIL 2nd is my birthday! Oh man! Don't get me started about the number of times I've thought of how cool that would have been to have celebrated my 35th with a Judy's show. They had THE most killer parties at the house on Law St. I was the one who drew in the nipples on the naked mannequin in the living room. Some great new waves bands that came through Houston in the early '80's: The Go-Gos, the Busboys, Polyrock, the Alley Cats, Nine,Nine,Nine, Our Daughter's Wedding, the Explosives, the Beatless, the Fabulous Pink Poodles and many others erased from the memory by time.

Comments: The memories are very fuzzy, but the first time I saw the Judys was probably the first time they played the Rock Island Club in 1980 on Main St. next to the Pink Pussycat Club. The Judys may have played with the Businessmen and the Inanimate Objects bands that night. I believe the Judys were the middle band. The Judys always had the best looking girls at their shows! I saw them several times at the Rock Island (the Island) club and other clubs between 1980-1983 but I can not picture in my memory which clubs they were. The Judys always put on a great show.

I lost all my Judy's Albums and tapes just due to people taking my stuff and years of loosing shit. Well I have managed to find just about every song from them and it still sounds just as good as it did in 1984-85... It's a shame that music does not have the same flare anymore. But I would say as a musician I am heavily inspired by these guys.... They Were Pioneers...

Comments: When I was a kid -(oh, how I keep using that term recently!) I was a HUGE fan of Wheel of Fortune. I watched it religiously every night in Dallas at 6:30. I knew I was going to be on the show one day! I dont remember the year, but watching it one night, there was a guy from Pearland, Texas. (I always liked the Texas players) I didnt hear the name, but when he was asked by Pat Sajak what he did for a living, he said he was in a band. Pat was surprised to hear that was "how he made a living?" He said YES! he played dates all over Texas-- and that was it - no name of the band or any thing else. At that time I could not recognize any band members, so I have no idea which one it was, but I do know it was before 1988 - I was still in highschool. Does anyone remember this???

Comments: You kids that are talking about learning the Judy's bass lines - STOP IT RIGHT NOW!!! You are only leading yourselves down a sad road to heartbreak and emptiness! My old bass player Lucien Von Stavenhagen was a total virtuoso of the instrument, totally fluent in that Rush/Primus fancy-ass "too-many-notes" style of playing - and we had to have the poor sod COMMITTED after he tried to learn to copy Jeff Walton's supposedly-simple bass lines on Washarama. I confronted Walton with this at the reunion show 5 or 6 years ago, and he admitted that NO-ONE but him can play the songs! The reason is basically that he had no idea what he was doing when he first took up the instrument. Long story short: if you can play bass, you will have to UNLEARN everything you were taught to play a Judy's song. If you learn bass by playing Judy's songs, you will NEVER be able to play any other music on the instrument. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Comments: I second that. I just got a bass and am just starting out. I know the songs may not be hard to fingure out for someone who has been playing a while, but for me, tabs for the bass would be so much fun. I remember when I was a kid running around with the broom pretending I was playing. It would be so fun now to actually play them.

Comments: I mentioned this in an email to our glorious Site-Master Mike awhile back, but I don't think he declared it as "news" so I'll toss it in here: After trying in vain to get a friend to sell me his "Teenage Hangups" EP, I noticed an unfamiliar 45 in his pile, with a familiar name among those listed on the sleeve. "Can I have this, then?" I asked and he said OK. What I got was "First Love (The World's Last Love Song)"/"Our Downtown" by "Raymond" [aka Raymond Carpenter] with Jeff Walton! The A-side is a totally Judy's-like post-WWIII love song, with great lyrics (but lame vocals -- no match for David Bean). Anyone else ever seen/heard of this oddity on Houston's "Pastelle Records"?

Comments: Once in a while I pine for the college days when I'd listen to Washarama with my Rice U friends. Occasionally we'd even come up with the cash - what? ten or twelve dollars? - it took to go and see/hear them live. God, they were good! Anybody remember the a capella "Somewhere over the Rainbow?" I'm pining again. I hope those guys are content wherever they are.

Comments: Geezus! I haven't heard about this band in years! The first time was back in Dallas on a Sunday nite radio show called "Rock and Roll Alternative," '83 or '84. I ran out to the record store (an indy store, used to be on Cedar Springs, Mark Griffin worked there-- anybody remember him from 900-ft Jesus and Lithium X-mas?-- great guitarist) and bought Washarama. Proudly, I still have that vinyl sitting next to the single-45 "100% White Girl" by Viktim. Man, thanks for bringing back great memories from the early days of Deep Ellum (Theater Gallery, Twilight Room, Prohpet Bar). Thank you for this site. I knew there was a reason for me coming to work!

Comments: Thank you so much! I first heard the Judy's when attending Gaithersburg HS (G'burg, MD) in about 1984 or so. Unfrigginbelieveable! I still remember the words, and still sing Guyana punch or pretty girls to myself every once in a while. This whole generation won't understand the Guyana song (Jim Jones who?) but all the pretty girls is still pretty on-target. Thank you so much for running this site! Now I'm going to try and figure out how I can buy some mp3s of Washarama...wish they would release the stuff so you could just buy it!

Comments: First of all, THANK YOU MICHAEL for this site and the incredible ode to The Judy's! I too grew up in Houston in the 1980s (Spring actually). The first time I saw The Judy's was in 1985 at a skating rink in Kingwood - was hilarious as you can imagine! The last time I saw The Judy's was my freshman year in college (1989) at The Basement in Lubbock Texas (another amazing show). I could kick myself for not saving my Judy's vinyl...and it kills me that we can't get this vintage music on CD! I now live in Austin and plan to keep a lookout for Judy's vinyl in the Waterloo used section and like places. Thanks again for the site Michael! Anna

Comments: I found letters from the JUDY'S to me back when they were big and when they actually corresponded. I was a huge fan in the 80's, remember seeing them at zeldas in houston with a fake id, now in my way over 30's and need them to have a reunion concert in my backyard. Good venue for that. Why? Because all JUDY's fans have a place to go, my memories of this great band can come to life (in person!) and those friends can all be together singing again every lyric as we did back when and enjoy the great music, the fun, and the night. Whaddya say, Judy's? Don't MOO on me!!

Comments: It is 2:20 a.m. a groggy monday morning and I happen upon this website. thank God for Google. Anyway, I went to Stratford High School, graduated in 1983 and around 1981 or 1982 my buddy Raymond Thibedueax was a big B-52's and Judy's fan. He let me borrow his Washarama cassette and as I listened to all the songs, especially "GUYANA PUNCH" which I sing monthly, I realized that the Judy's were truly unique and they played some really catchy music with wonderfully crafted lyrics with great imagery and tales of teenage angst. The main thing I remeber about the Judy's was their music was alive and quirky and yet compelling. I searched for years in Music stores for the Judy's and I would always get the same lame -ass answer, "Who are the Judy's?" Sad to say the young pups in the music stores were to stoned and cranked up on Mettalica. So all you folks out there check out this whole web site, it will wash your mind with a flood of high school memories. I give this site 4 STARS!!!! Keep up the great work. Dave, and Ray Thibedeaux if you are still alive after all those "lost years" e mail me and let me know if you are alive and still writing.

Comments: I'M IN HEAVEN!!!! OK, so I graduated from Klein HS in '83, I popped around here and there, and I've ended up in Memphis. All this time, I've had the Washarama cassette in my possession as a reminder of the "bygone days". A great friend here is in a band and they play only 60's obscure songs, but the sound so much like Judy's-style riffs that I told her to check out some Judy's songs. Of course, I'm not going to give her my only cassette, so I popped on the web to see if there was any way I could buy a Judy's tape. Figuring some kind of Kazaa download was going to be it, I typed in "The Judy's" to Google just to satisfy my curiosity. Oh, the joy! Not only did I not realize you guys were still active, I didn't know any other albums but my one "Washarama"! So now I'm off to see what I can find here. THANK YOU!!!!!!

Comments: Dear David Bean, We know you may not have a lot of time or money for the re-release, but you owe it to all your diehard fans to hurry up and finish the project. Take up a collection and let us help if you need to. We don't really care about whether or not there's a tribute album. We didn't grow up partying to other people trying to cover your songs; we grew up with you, Jeff, and Dane. Tribute albums usually suck anyway, so if that's the holdup, just move on and leave that idea in the dust. Or get your fans to do the cover themselves, since we all DID sing along with the band in its heyday. Meanwhile, thanks, Micahel for this wonderful site. It's the next best thing to having the albums. Sincerely, Trent

Comments: Let's face it; Jeff Walton WAS the musical brains behind the Judy's. David could croon and squeak and perform like no one else, not to mention his incredible gift for lyrics, but without Walton's bass grooves and quirky sense of harmony and compositional mind, the music has no magic. I've enjoyed listening to all the demos and rare recordings on this site; it makes it very clear what each member contributed to the whole mix.

Comments: Ah. It does my heart good to see this site because it just reminds me of all those innocent nights of dancing and dancing the night away at Numbers and then going out to The House of Pies (or "The House of Guys," as we liked to call it") chat-chat-chatting the night away and drinking way too much coffee and talking about what was wrong with Ronald Reagan and Jerry Falwell because we thoguht we were sophisticated and worldwise adults who loved to laugh at the world just like the band that we all knew and loved and tried to pretend that we were when we formed our own half-baked bands in our garages with friends who knew how to play just enough guitar or keybords or bass to impress the impressionable high school people who were just as big of losers as we were, only they were not self-respecting enough to do something about it like making a band or going to Numbers or the House of Pies and listening to the Judy's, yes, the Judy's, sing songs that made fun of all those people who wouldn't let us into their circles because we the outsiders would never, could never be like them even if we wanted to, which naturally we didn't because we had found something better- the alternative, the Judy's who inspired us to be as different as a ghost wearing a bikini or a mechanical boy who discovered that he needed emotions after all because after all, emotions are what make us human, and emotions are what make us memories like the ones I have of going to Numbers and the House of Pies, and this very site which has brought two tears to my eyes as I remember that I too was once young and optimistic and playfully cynical if a little more naiive than I thought I was, because after all, sooner or later, you grow up and vote republican (at least once) until you realize that no self-respecting republican would be caught dead in Numbers or The House of Pies, and if that's what it means to be republican, who needs it anyway, but then the Judy's showed us how to laugh about politics, and in the long run it doesn't really matter because you can embrace what means something to you- like the Judy's and NUmbers and the House of Pies. I love you, David Bean!Moo! Moo! MOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Anyhoo, in the early 80's on KTRU I heard a song by a band with a female singer with lyrics that go "Left me down in diddy wha diddy, diddy wha".... I have NO IDEA what the song or artist is... From what I remember, the music was punkish and the singer was sort of dead-pan in her delivery. Any information would be appreciated!!!!! The sci-fi flicks of the fifties always looked at the mid-eighties as a place where convenience was king. There would be rocket packs on every person's back, children would be delivered by vending machines, and we'd all fly to work in our supersonic spaceships." Obviously, this is a reference to a strange song on KSBJ that had the following lyrics: "It's the 80s, where's the rocket packs?/ Go anywhere we strap them on our backs... I thought by now, I'd walk the moon / and eat a pill instead of dinner. . ." My question for you, O Houston 80s trivia guru- What was the name of this song, who sang it, and is it still available?

Comments: Hi. I stumbled across this site and boy did it bring back memories. I went to school with Jeff Walton I think as far back as elementary school and of course was a big fan of the Judy's. I did not see it anywhere else on the site but here is some trivia: The band was originally called The Jets but there was another band by that name so the guys named The Judys after one of our teachers in high school. I was hoping to see Jeff at our 20-year high school reunion, but he did not show up. The WEIRD thing was, while I was driving to the reunion, KTRU played one of their songs. Thanks for putting together a great site and bringing back a lot of memories!

Doing a little research, I turned this up at http://www.grisaffi.com/music.html: Laughing Boy the music JEFF WALTON (composer) Houston-based composer Jeffrey Walton (b. 1963) began his career at the age of seventeen as a member of one of Texas' quirkiest and regionally popular rock bands, The Judys. After studying music at the University of Houston, Walton left the band in 1987 to pursue writing for film and television. After a few years of local TV work (and substitute teaching), he was given his first feature, FATAL JUSTICE - a low-budget action picture produced by Fred Olin Ray's company American Independent. Since then, Walton has scored thirteen features, written various television and radio spots, and done numerous corporate films. Walton lives in Houston with his wife, two sons, and a dog.

Comments: Holy Crap! This site is too good to be true. Doscivered The Judy's in 9th right when wash-a-rama first came out. Me and Trey thought we were so cool and hip. His Dad got him in to a show at the Rock Saloon, but my parents wouldn't let me go. Lower and Westheimer and Numbers (and staring at all the "massage parlors"). This'll freak you guys out: I live in Stockholm, Sweden, and last November I played a show at this tiny little club, and suddenly the speakers start booming "Girls, Girls, Girls". Turns out the DJ (who was Swedish), had just happened to pick up Wash-a-rama for 2 bucks or so, and had no idea who they were. I have to admit, I think I bored the shit out of him. He said he'd make a cd for him, but I lost his number. Oh well, I found most of those tunes at audiogalaxy.com anyhow. Thanks for existing.

Thanks for the great memories and WHEN the albums come out on CD, I will line up with the rest of the fans to buy them!

Comments: Hey just wanted to thank Michael for a great site. I was introduced to The Judys in 1984 by a roommate from Kingwood when we were freshman at A&M. They always packed G. Rollie when they came to town. Now that Napsters pretty much dead Im resorting to musiccity.com to find Judy's .mp3 files that are missing from my collection....check it out.

Saw them open for the B-52's in '81 at the Palmer quontset hut in Austin. I can still see the drummer playing the rack of pots and pans....

I got my first introduction to Washarama as a junior in high school (Richardson Texas) and my whole high school experience is intermingled with Judy's music. I've been reading about the copyright issues and I'd like to put my 2 cents in just in case any of the band members are reading. PLEASE PLEASE put out a compliation CD! I don't care how you do it.. sell it mail order I'll buy it in a second no matter what it costs! Robert

Comments: Hi, I was hoping one of you Houston-Pop/Wave fans could help me with some info on one of my all-time favorite 80's Houston bands, (besides the Judy's). If you lived in Houston in the late 70's - early 80's maybe you can help track this band down. I taped them off the KLOL "Talent In Texas Show" in either 80 or 81, the band is called "80 Cents" ( or is it 80's Sense? AD Since? - never saw it in writing , just heard a DJ w/ a TX drawl pronounce it. The group had at least 3 quality recordings. The songs I taped off the radio by them are "Take It to Heart", "Such a Little Girl" & "City Bitches". The music is piano driven power pop ( for lack of a better term ) - it sounds very Nick Lowe-ish, like something that would've been on Stiff records around the time of its release. For all I know, they may have even done shows w/ the Judy's ( they would have complimented each other fine ). The songs/delivery&recording were just excellent & I'd really like to find out more about them & if possible replace my very worn-out cassette with a "hot" recording of them....... does the name ring any bells? thanks for your time. please check out my band's website ( & yes the Judy's were a big influence - particularly "Underwater Fun".) : http://www.unclebuzz.com/pinkhome.html thanks ! Comments: Michael, Is there any way for you to tell me if Dane's dad was an orthodontist? I had a Dr. Cessac as my orthodontist back in the 70's and I think it was Dane's dad. Anyway I had a friend of mine make me a cassette of the Wash-a-Rama album he had stashed. Man I wore that thing out like my favorite pair of shoes. I would absolutely LOVE to get some of the stuff on CD. This stuff is classic, and the Judy's fans should not stop until it is all released on CD. Come on Daddy Dean, talk the boy into re-releasing the tracks. If not, this will go down as one of those eccentric artist who housed a bunch of "never before released" music that the public would die for but can't get their hands on. Let me lay another blast from the past on everbody, guess what else is making a return. TIDDIES, the original soft soled beach sandal. It's true. What a combination, kicking it on the beach wearing a pair of Tiddies and jammin to the Judy's on my car stereo.

Comments: I absolutely love that this site exists. I was introduced to "Washarama" when I was a junior in high school (83) and have been talking about the band ever since. My original copy was lost, stolen or distroyed years and years ago. A few years back I found the album at a used record store and bought it for a whopping fifty bucks. I still have that copy, but unfortunately I cannot listen to it, or any of my other great records as I no longer have a turn table. As I type this I am downloading the songs I can find off of Napster. And, you can bet that if and when "Washarama" is released on CD I will scurry out to the store and pick it up, at just about any cost.

Currently, I've got a pretty varied group of 'yeses,' including the Muffs, Pushmonkey, and Lisa Loeb!" Comments: OH MY GOD!!!! Finding this site just made one of my childhood dreams come true. Somehow in 1989, I was a freshman in high school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the way cool seniors I befriended turned me on to this amazing band called the Judy's. Only one person had the tape and somehow, I never got a copy. I thought I remembered that they were from Texas, but couldn't be sure. I was only 13! I couldn't really remember any of the songs, but I remembered that I loved them and always wanted to find them again. Unfortunately, the years passed and I resigned to chalk it up as another amazing local band that the rest of the world was never going to get to hear. My heart breaks to think of how many incredible bands exist and only fifty lucky people get to hear them when they play their local tavern. This situation should be righted. Anyway, so I decide, well, I *did* finally find an Olivia Xanadu picture disc...anything is possible. So I ran a search and found this site. I wasn't sure until I went through a song list and found "Guyana Punch." My palms were sweating as it geared up to start playing and as it did, tears welled up, I swear to god! Now that all my childhood mysteries are being answered, what am I going to go off in search of? But that's okay, because one of the mysteries of my life has been solved. And not only have I found the band I loved but could barely remember, but they were a real band with real fans! Okay, I'm gonna go have a stiff drink and buy some records. If there are any other Non-Fitter-Inners around, write me. We never had that 10 year reunion we talked about! ciao Holly Rose

Comments: What a great site! Man, what memories. I also grew up in Pasadena in the early 80's and I remember The Judy's from a cassette that my best friend had. We must have worn that thing out from 81 - 83, trolling around West Houston (i.e. Boardwalk Beach Club, Filling Station, etc.) for girls. I had always heard that they were from Pearland and that one of the members was in car accident that caused their breakup. Urban legend, I suppose. I am trying to download the MP3's off Napster, but would gladly pay a significant premium to get a CD of Washarama, if it were available. Guys, if you're reading, your fans are hear and you're leaving money on the table. Michael, Thanks for this site. It's now on my favorites and I'll check it often.

Comments: To respond to the worries that mp3 trading will somehow reduce revenues on the CD's: let me assure everyone of one thing, that's there's nothing like the real thing. This is purely anecodotal, but here it goes. There's an English band called James, probably one of the most talented bands currently in existance. They were recently dropped by their American label, so their newest and to date best work, "Millionaires," exists only as an import. Through Napster, I was able to find all the individual tracks making up the CD. Yet today, I purchased the import when I was lucky enough to find it at my record store. Why did I do this, when I could've simply burned the tracks onto a blank CD and had the album? Because there's nothing like the real thing. I don't want a bunch of copies cluttering my collection. The only thing hindering me before was that CDnow and Amazon.com were unable to even locate it for me, so I thought Napster was my only choice. When I found that I could purchase a professionally produced and pressed CD, one with artwork, lyrics and a superior quality of sound to an mp3 file, I was more than willing to plunge down $30. Now, not all people are like me, obviously. But it seems to me that if I have to choose between having 5 or 6 randomly choosen Judys mp3's of minimal quality that take hours out of my life to download (their sound quality, no matter how cleaned up, still from a phonograph record), and a digitally remastered CD complete with original artwork and the complete content of the original lp, I'd pick the latter, no matter how broke I am. When and if the Judys release their stuff on CD, I guarantee you I'll be first in line to pick it up, regardless of how many of their mp3's I find. Most people who use Napster, I think, would agree. BTW, I'd never have heard of the Judys if my ex-gf hadn't taped "Guyana Punch" onto a cassette compilation she made for me. I became a fan who'd be willing to pay money because of her act of "piracy" and my discovery of Judys MP3's. I recommend http://www.theonion.com/onion3618/kid_rock_starves.html

Comments: Micheal: I, for one, assume that if anyone could make the case for putting David's music up for sale at Mp3.com, I would think it would be you. If he did not want to actually sell CDs there, I'll bet he'd be open to the download thing. I'm sure he'd do much better there than I have... I know that I'd buy CD copies of everything. The full albums should be preserved "as is", but the singles could be sold together on one disc with room to spare.

Comments: Well, I see there are some interesting points here, and I knew that it was going to open up a bit of discussion. Perhaps I'll just break down and contact David and see what his stance on the issue is. It's possible that I could nudge him in one direction or the other. Maybe he'll decide to re-release the tunes if I let him know what a great interest there is. By the same token, he may have decided that he just doesn't want to mess with it anymore and he may give us carte blanche to trade away. If that's the case, then I can bring the MP3's back to the site, or better yet, place them on something like MP3.Com where the bandwidth would be free. Who knows. I'll see if I can't get a hold of him sometime in the near future to see exactly what he has up his sleeve.

Comments: I usually do not join into these message boards since my job involves working on the internet, but I cannot pass up an opportunity to talk about The Judy's. Growing up during the mid-late 80's and living in the next town over from Jeff and the guys I developed a great appreciation for the beautiful music and fun-filled times that they were known for. But I have to disagree with Michael about the MP3's, it seems that trading and finding them on the Net is the ony way to get them. I have most of washarama and Moo on mp3 and love to see and hear about other lovers of the Judy's enjoying all of those classics. Her Wave, Guyana Punch, etc. So if you are need of them just email me and I will respond where you can go get them. But we need to trade something so that it is not piracy, so send your funniest Judy's memory or something and it will be like the barter system. One last note: I saw Dynamite Hack (dynamitehack.com) do a cover of 'Grass is Greener' and is can be seen at http://www.bigjam.com/webcast/LaZonaRosa/dynamitehack_6_2/webcast_dh_body.htm. It is great, you have to watch most of the show to see it, but DH is awesome. "Now is a time that all of the boys are rocking the world..." I understand and respect your stance BUT (you knew I had a big but didn't you)this music is no longer being published. We are not robbing the band's opportunity to make money by sharing this music. They will never collect on these albums again. We are 15+ yrs removed from the Judy's craze. I think a comeback or re-release unlikly. We die hards must sit back and relish the days when we saw and heard and felt the Judy's. It was fantastic! As far as the expense of sharing is concerned; I am sure we can work something out... I had a house fire which took care of the first and a horrible crash which left me without the other. Comments: Napster is cool. I use it from home all the time to get lots of out of print stuff. However, I personally hope that The Judy's never show up on Napster. I found Washarama on there last week, and my heart sunk. My reason for feeling this way goes back to one of the big reasons why I removed the MP3 files from the Judy's site to begin with. By distributing free copies of good quality recordings of the songs, you devalue the projects themselves. If we ever hope to see The Judy's reissue their music, I feel that it's important that their music be kept in demand on a retail level. In other words, if someone can just go download The Judys music for free, what would motivate the group to go to all the trouble of reissuing the stuff themselves? It might be argued that The Judy's could find a new fan base via the MP3 movement, but this is a naive argument that couldn't be further from the truth. This discussion will undoubtedly open up a can of worms, but since I've firmly changed my personal stance on MP3 distribution of The Judy's music (because I so desperately want to see the great old tunes reissued), I hope that we DON'T see The Judy's on Napster!

However, there are a few people that are on Napster sporadically, that have some rare stuff, that I have not been able to get. Comments: Thanks for the site - great job. I went to Texas A&M and was in the corps there with a bunch of guys from Pearland who went to high school with the band, so I was a Judy's fan fairly early, but during the time when they didn't perform too much. Too bad I missed the MP3's - there's no place to get the music anymore, and all I've got left are some degrading tapes I made of friends albums - the vinyls weren't real easy to get even back then! Copies, anyone? (I think one of the best uses for MP3 is as a distribution format for music that can't be had any other way. I'd be happy to buy a Judy's CD if there were one, but since there's not, I'm reduced to begging MP3's or scrounging (unsuccessfully so far) for vinyl. Anyhow - thanks for the good work - I never would have known we may someday see David Bean as a gospel singer (which would be very cool, really...)

Comments: I had been searching for the Judy's Moo for 10 years, when I finally located the record in a shop in Houston. Sure, I payed 30 bucks for it, but it was worth it. Not having a record player of my own, I had to wait a few weeks to track one down. I finally got the thing transferred to tape at a friend's house and hopped into the car with my girlfriend. I popped it in, and was immediately taken back to the days of driving around with my brother, listening to Milk over and over again. Too bad my girlfriend hated it and begged and pleaded to take the tape out. We got in a huge fight, but come on! I had to defend the Judy's honor, right? Well, to make a long story short, we're not dating anymore, and my girlfriend of three years is a full-fledged Judy's convert. And thanks to this website, I still don't have to buy a record player! By the way, if you check out my comedy radio show at http://v91.simplenet.com/nummy and listen to some of the shows in the archives, you'll hear some Judy's songs. It's fun to be able to play them on the air.

Comments: We need a Judy's convention so we can trade! If interested plase e-mail me. We all want them to start selling their albums again or have all their music placed on CD so we can buy just one CD. I am sure we are willing to pay dearly for a single CD with all of thier music.

Comments: While I appreciate the nobility and common sense that has caused Michael to remove the MP3s from this site, I just found it today, and wasn't able to capitalize on the earlier existence of said files. What I'm getting at is, if there's another fan out there that has them, please, please help me out. This looks like the very end of the road in my search for the music, and wouldn't you know it, I got here after the store closed. If there's a Judy's album left in Austin or Houston, I think it's buried deep in a self-storage unit somewhere, and won't see the light of day for years. By which time I'll be too deaf to enjoy it. So, with humble pleadings, if anyone wants to help a fellow out.... remember SPIT, Joe Star's omni, The Island, Really Red, The Midolls, D-Day, and the Alamo. Thanks, -Chuck

Comments: Personally I'm hoping for hi-fi CD reissues mixed down from the masters. An MP3 album would be an improvement over the sampled lp's and tapes, but why not go all the way and do it right? I can certainly hear the difference between 128kb/sec MP3 compression and the original source.

Comments: There exists an EASY way for The Judy's to release their music on CD. Guys, if you're reading (or if anyone who knows ANYBODY from The Judy's is reading), visit this Web site: http://www.mp3.com/dam/ Here's a snippet from the site: "The Digital Automatic Music (D.A.M.) System is a new way to sell CDs which puts all of the control and much more of the money from record sales into musician's pockets. Any artist can signup to have MP3.com produce, market and sell their CDs with no signup fees or monthly costs. Each artist sets the price of their CD(s) and receives 50% of the sale price for every CD sold." Michael, would you be willing to divulge the number of Judy's fans on your mailing list? I would imagine each one of those people would be an interested buyer. If we could get Washarama and Moo on CD, I would be very happy. Even better would be BOTH albums on one CD, but I'm not picky.

Comments: Well, you could always have a small selection up on a rotating basis with a password that changes weekly and is only given to readers of the site... that would foil the mp3 search engines. Especially for the non-album and bootleg tracks that really aren't available anywhere but here. Man I hope those reissues come out, I'd buy them all in a heartbeat. My Moo tape is starting to warble.

Comments: Sorry, Mike. Check the "News" section on the fate of the MP3's. There's also a blurb in the FAQ about them.

Comments: Hey, what happened to the mp3's? The site is pretty cool though. You should get a lot of hits! A lot of the people I talk to don't even know who The Judy's are, they think I am talking about The Judybats. Now I can tell them where to go! SO are you hiding the mp3's or are they gone. I hope they aren't gone, my computer is behind a firewall and I can't use realaudio. Thanks, Mike

Comments: I get some great letters from Judy's fans, and I've always thought it was a shame that there wasn't a place to converse with each other. Now there is! Post your Judy's related messages here! But remember, if you message deals with a good story or memory of the band, or if you're looking to buy or sell The Judy's music, there's a seperate place for that! Thanks, and have a GREAT time!
